Meet Your Guide
Jonathan Gray
Jon first discovered his love for fly fishing at a very young age on the canals and sandy flats of the Lower Laguna Madre. Between drifting shrimp patterns to nocturnal Speckled Trout and slinging feathers at white sand Redfish, he was hooked. Through grade school he joined his dad on the local tournament bass fishing scene that took the pair on weekend excursions to lakes across the Texas hill country. But he always wondered what the local spring creeks and rivers had to offer.
As he continued tournament bass fishing through highschool, he began conventional rod and reel guiding. All the while, exploring and growing his knowledge of the hundreds of miles of streams in the area. Upon beginning college at Texas State University he transitioned almost exclusively to fly guiding the San Marcos river. Where he often applied conventional bass fishing philosophies to target big bass on the fly.
No matter your age or skill level Jon looks forward to sharing a slice of Texas’ treasured flowing waters with you soon!

Our Waters
Guadalupe River
As the southernmost trout fishery in the United States, the Guadalupe Tailrace draws fly anglers from around the country.
San Marcos River
The springs that form the San Marcos river are some of the oldest continuously flowing springs in the United States, with a history dating back over 10,000 years. The clear and cool headwaters provide a unique habitat for a variety of fish species, including several endangered species such as the Texas Blind Salamander, Fountain Darter, and Texas Wild Rice. Just a short distance outside of the town of San Marcos is where we focus the majority of our fly fishing efforts, targeting a variety of fish species including Largemouth Bass, Guadalupe Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Rio Grande Cichlids, gar, and several species of sunfish.
The constant water temperature of the San Marcos makes the river a year-round fishery, as well as a summer time favorite for anglers looking to stay cool.
Canyon Lake
Canyon Lake was impounded in the 1960s as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' only flood control reservior on the Guadalupe River. Dominated by deep clear waters and vast hydrilla beds, the lake gained the attention of fly fisheman in recent years as a multi-faceted fishery. Offering fly anglers seasonal opportunities at Largemouth bass, Striped Bass, and White Bass. With the exception of floats targeting our Spring White Bass run, all Canyon Lake trips are run out of a 21 foot bass boat.
Walter E. Long Lake
Located just a few minutes east of downtown Austin, Walter E. Long Lake, also known as Decker Lake, is a popular destination for local bass fisherman. While the lake may attract primarily conventional fisherman, Decker sets up well for the fly angler looking to put down light tippets and dainty flies in favor of heavy mono and big bass bugs. My primary fly season on Decker spans April to October.
